Grant arms hotel Grantown-on- Spey
My fantastic wife Janatha and I have been working extremely hard so Jan organised a surprise break for both of us at the Grant arms hotel Grantown-on-Spey Scotland not only did Jan organise the trip she also organised me a day’s photography with wildlife photographer Neil Mcintyre while she went off for a day of well earned pampering at the spar.

Located in the Cairngorms National Park in the beautiful Scottish Highlands the Grant arms hotel is perfectly placed to enjoy some amazing wildlife breaks.
The Grant arms hotel is a really amazing hotel with an equally amazing restaurant, the staff are fantastic and super helpful, with rooms that are decorated too standards that are fit for a King, A real credit to the owners.

Part of the hotel is allocated to the Bird and Wildlife Watching Club (BWWC) and you can find out a whole host of information that include daily sightings and places to visit there is also a free to use library with an extensive wildlife book collection.

Our trip unfortunately coincided with the worst snow falls Scotland had experienced in a long time, and boy did we experience it!
Snow up to our knees, roads blocked, motorways closed and cars spinning out of control towards us, we had it all. Our journey home was cut short as the motorway closed just as we approached it, we just managed to get diesel before the garage decided to close the gates and only let people buy a can for £7.00 then fill it up, talk about cashing in on a bad situation! We then managed to get the last room in a travel lodge for the night; we witnessed 100’s sleeping in cars.
My day out with Neil Mcintyre was a good experience that I can only recommend should you decide to visit the Cairngorms. You cannot beat local knowledge, Neil took me to photograph Red Squirrels and in the snow this made fantastic photographs.
Neil then took me to his feeding station to photograph Created tits and this was another fantastic experience, crested tits landing in pine trees 15 feet away, Neil certainly knows his stuff.
I can highly recommend a trip to the Grant Arms hotel, every wildlife watcher or photographer should add this place to their wish list.
